Abstract:Guangzhou is situated in a pivotal region boasting a long histor y of trade and communication between China and the rest of the world. The needs arising from international exchange have helped shape the inclusive and integrated character of Lingnan gardens. By examining the landscape characteristics of Lingnan gardens used for international exchange, this paper approaches to landscape renewal: highlighting Lingnan features, creating ornamental highlights, and interpreting cultural connotations. Taking Guangdong Songyuan Hotel and Guangzhou Orchid Garden as case studies, the renewal projects preserve the authenticity of traditional Lingnan garden styles. Centered on creating distinctive landscape features that express Lingnan cultural heritage, the projects coordinate the overall spatial layout, use small-scale interventions that respect historic features to improve landscape quality, and optimize the ecological environment to shape distinctive landscape nodes. Diversified and intensive operational approaches, including plant-themed popular science that embodies aspirations and the activation of garden spaces, are adopted to showcase the profound Chinese civilization. High standards and stringent requirements are enforced to guarantee the delivery outcomes of refined construction. Finally, the paper proposes reflections on the future development of Lingnan gardens, including the continuation of Lingnan characteristics, seizing opportunities of the times, adhering to high standards and quality, and enriching operation and maintenance measures, with the aim of providing ideas for the optimization and upgrading of Lingnan gardens in the period of urban regeneration.
