Abstract:To identify superior shrub species native to Africa suitable for landscape use in Shenzhen, this study developed a comprehensive evaluation system based on the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), incorporating ornamental value, adaptability, and ecological safety. Five shrub species native to Africa were selected for quantitative assessment of their landscape application potential. The results showed that Acanthus polystachyus, Tinnea aethiopica, Ruttya fruticosa, and Petchia erythrocarpa all scored above 85 points and were rated as Grade I, indicating high landscape application value with no invasive behavior observed in the assessment, broader use in Guangdong requires further monitoring. Senna didymobotrya scored 83.90 points and was rated as Grade II, also showing potential for landscape use in the same region. Through validation and comparison, the comprehensive evaluation system established in this study showed preliminary consistency with the comparison cases, and can provide an operational assessment tool for the scientific screening of introduced landscape plants.
