Abstract:Aquatic plant specialized gardens possess unique value in aquatic plant resource conservation, scientific research, science popularization, and landscape display, and are gaining increasing attention. The construction of the Baiyun Lake Aquatic Plant Specialized Garden in Guangzhou, as a practical project of the South China National Botanical Garden System, takes advantage of the excellent ecological setting of Baiyun Lake to create a comprehensive park featuring multi-functional coordination of ecological conservation, scientific research, popular science education, and landscape recreation. The planning adheres to the principles of ecological priority, scientific orientation, and functional integration. In the core conservation area, through simulating the ecological differentiation in natural wetlands, a multi-level and multi-functional composite aquatic plant community is constructed. By extracting the cultural symbols of Lingnan water towns and translating them into modern landscape design, the planning creates themed exhibition areas such as Rare Aquatic Plant Island and Nanyaozhou Area. The immersive popularization routes and interactive interpretation facilities connect various functional zones, forming a collaborative spatial pattern with ecological conservation as the core, scientific research as the driving force, science popularization as the bridge, and recreation as the carrier, thereby significantly enhancing both ecological services and social education functions.
