Abstract:With the advancement of child-friendly city development, old residential communities in small towns often fail to meet the increasingly diverse functional needs of children in terms of multi-functional space supply, supporting facilities, environmental quality improvement, and innovative community governance. Based on this, this paper conducts theoretical research on child-friendly development in small towns. It combines with the demands and challenges of public space renovation in old residential communities. It proposes a five dimensional child-friendly renovation strategy for public spaces in old residential areas of small towns: travel-friendly, functional-friendly, environment-friendly, intelligence-friendly, and participation-friendly. Finally, the paper presents and validates the strategy through the renewal of the Jixiang Tongmeng Park in Longchuan County, Heyuan City, Guangdong Province.
