Abstract:Canadian biodiversity conservation has accumulated excellent experience internationally, and Surrey is one of the few cities that have a municipal biodiversity conservation strategy. Through studying the biodiversity strategy of Surrey City, this paper sorts out the framework of the strategy, summarizes its experience in biodiversity level assessment, two-level conservation management model, monitoring and feedback mechanism, and public awareness and participation. Four implications for municipal biodiversity conservation planning in China are put forward, namely, scientific assessment of urban biodiversity level, multi-layer collaborative conservation planning, emphasis on public participation, and strengthening and improvement of relevant policies and systems.
