Abstract:Facing the uncertainty, mobility, and high density of contemporary cities,Rem Koolhaas proposes a theory that adapts to the characteristics of modern metropolises—“congested culture”.By studying the needs of urban mass culture,he derives architecture and urban design theories into urban public spaces, thus achieving the strategic goal of transforming urban public spaces into “social condensers”.His design ideas have been continuously developed in urban public space projects of Office for Metropolitan Architecture(OMA),and have an important influence on landscape urbanism. The existing research on Koolhaas’theory at home and abroad is mainly concentrated on architecture, but there is almost a vacancy in the research on Koolhaas’urban public space thought. This paper studies Koolhaas’s urban public space thoughts from the perspective of landscape architecture, interprets Koolhaas’s urban public space design thoughts, strategies and representations through combing Koolhaas’s life experience, theoretical works and practical works,so as to provide a reference for the improvement of landscape architecture theory and domestic urban construction.
